LLMs (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude) must understand quickly and unambiguously the content of your pages. Schema.org provides them this structured understanding: "This is an Organization, it's called X, it's expert in Y". Without this markup, AI has to interpret everything from raw text, which increases the risk of errors and decreases your chances of being cited.

For GEO, the most impactful are: Organization (identity, knowsAbout), FAQPage (questions/answers extracted directly by AI), Article (author, date, E-E-A-T expertise) and HowTo (step-by-step tutorials). For e-commerce: Product, Offer, Review. For local: LocalBusiness.

Schema.org (via JSON-LD) describes the content of your page (what it is, who it is, what it's about). ARIA describes the structure of your interface (where is the menu, main content, sidebar). Both are complementary: Schema helps Google and LLMs understand meaning, ARIA helps them navigate and prioritize page areas.

LLMs have a limited token budget to read a page. ARIA landmarks (role="main", role="navigation") allow them to quickly identify main content vs chrome (menu, footer, sidebar). It's like giving them a map instead of letting them get lost in HTML. Less effort for AI = more chances of being well understood and cited.

Well-implemented JSON-LD has virtually no impact on performance because it's in the and doesn't block rendering. However, poor asynchronous loading of markup scripts can cause CLS (Cumulative Layout Shift) issues. We always validate Core Web Vitals after each implementation.

We use several tools: Google Rich Results Test (official validation), Schema Markup Validator (JSON-LD syntax), Lighthouse (ARIA accessibility) and Wave (complete accessibility). We test before deployment AND after to ensure there are no errors in production.
